TEHRAN Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi on Thursday called on the international community to put forward a new plan to put an end to the crisis in the Middle East, resulting from the Zionist regime's racist policy.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Ivanov, Kharrazi called for Russian endeavors to exert pressure on the Zionist regime to stop its provocative actions against Palestinians, which have posed a serious threat to the Middle East.

"Considering the latest developments in the region, it is impossible to go back to the past. New plans should be offered by the international community to put an end to the chronic crisis in the Middle East. The crisis should be solved through democratic means," Kharrazi told Ivanov in the telephone conversation.

Ivanov expressed deep concern about the current situation in the Middle East and said that the current situation will be to the benefit of none of the parties. It may bring unpredictable consequences, Ivanov said.

Also, Karrazi on Thursday called for European Union's immediate and firm action to stop the Zionist regime's provocation.

In a telephone conversation with European Union's Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana, Kharrazi expressed deep concern about the escalation of crisis in the Middle East.

He said, "Middle East developments indicate the necessity of a new approach to resolve the crisis, because the former approaches proved to be failure."

The Iranian foreign minister called for further Iran-EU cooperation in this respect.

The Zionist regime on Monday ignited a new wave of crisis in occupied Palestine by mounting air, land and sea attacks on Palestinian targets in Gaza Strip as well as Syrian targets in Lebanon.
